Artist Statement

Art happens in the heart and mind of the person experiencing it. My life has taken me on many different journeys, always involving creativity, design, and having the desire to be surrounded by beautiful subjects that give me inspiration. Having worked in various mediums including pottery, metal sculpture, watercolor, acrylic painting, pastel painting, oil painting and photography, I have enriched my creative spirit throughout my life.

Challenging myself to learn and explore gives me the drive to create art. That, along with a wide range of subject matter that inspires me, encourages me to want to put my visions on a canvas. Oil painting provides the best expression for my inspiration. What draws me in, is the desire to capture a unique composition, that has interesting light, shadows, movement, colors, or something that evokes an emotion. Taking in the beauty in nature is my greatest inspiration, and is my spiritual “fix”.

When I am taking photos, it is the exploration and discovery that is exciting to me. I want to be able to capture a moment that is unique in nature, that expresses the calmness or serenity of a special place or the awe inspiring colors from a beautiful sunrise or sunset. I hope that I can convey those feelings and to show the appreciation of nature’s natural beauty that I feel when I am creating my paintings and photographs.
